Bio

Luba Shapiro Grenader, a Russian immigrant, who fled Soviet Russia with her dissident family,  settled north of Boston since early 1990s, began her artistic journey studying art in both Russia and the US. She earned her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, transitioning from painting to mixed-media figurative drawing. Her work intertwines fiber, paper, and wood, delving into the intricate realms of motherhood, women, and the echoes of war. Raised under the Soviet regime, Grenader's art grapples with the complexities of gender and nationality-based oppression. Her recent explorations focus on themes of personal and global loss, reflecting an empathetic inquiry into the human condition. Grenader's work has been showcased in various local and national exhibitions. Additionally, she shares her expertise as a professor at Endicott College and as an instructor at Essex Art Center.
